Will Rib Removal Solve My Hip Pain?
Q: Dr. Eppley, I am a 27 year old intersex xxy trans woman who is 5’2, and around 110-120lbs. my growth was stunted as a child, because of adhd treatment and malnourishment. This has resulted in short stature, but my ribs dig into my hips and have caused significant postural issues for me as my hormones has resulted in slight shortening of my already short stature. i am seeking rib removal or similar to correct this.
A:By description you likely have iliocostal syndrome where the tips of rib #11 and #12 are too close to the iliac crest causing them to impinge on the hips particularly in bending maneuvers. Removing their outer segments is the corrective treatment.
