Will I Lose Arm Range Of Motion After Shoulder Narrowing Surgery?
Q: Dr. Eppley, My primary concern in pursuing shoulder narrowing surgery is that I do manual labor for a living and am worried about losing my range of motion as a result of this surgery. I’ve done research into successfully healed double-clavicle fractures where range of motion is maintained, which makes me feel better. Ultimately I’m at a point where some loss of range of motion would be acceptable in exchange for noticeable results.
A: Your concerns are understandable and common but in my experience to date I have yet to see any postoperative range of motion issues after surgery. Nor would I expect such to occur given the much larger clinical experiences in non-surgical and surgical clavicle fracture repair. (not an exact corollary but close)
