Will Dry Eyes Prevent Me From Having Vertical Orbital Dystopia Correction Surgery?

Q: Dr. Eppley, I am interested in Vertical Orbital Dystopia surgery obj my right eye. However, there is concern involved, as I have to put in eye drops. Here are the names of the drops:

Vital Tears Eye Drops

AzaSite Eye Drops

Xiidra Eye Drops

Retaine Eye Drops.

These are all for dry eye purposes.

A:Those eye drops are all used to treat dry eye syndrome (keratoconjunctivitis sicca) which I assume this is present in both eyes and not just the vertical orbital dystopia side. But even so that does present some concerns about aggravating that condition with any type of procedure on the eyelids in which their position up against the eyeball is surgically manipulated. I would have to have some input from your ophthalmologist who put you on these medications to better determine the risk of symptomatic aggravation with any orbital surgery.
