Will BBL Surgery Fix An Indented Buttock Scar?

Q: Dr. Eppley, I have an indented scar on my left upper buttocks. I’m thinking of having a BBL. Can a BBL make it look better. I also notice anytime I press on it it’s painful. I have had this on me for more than 10 years.

A: With an indented scar that is adhered (fixed to the underlying tissues), you can have BBL surgery but it will not make the indented scar disappear. It may make it look even more indented or may soften it a bit but the pronounced indentation will remain. To really improve the indentation it should be treated before a BBL by excision of the indented scar and the placement of solid fat graft underneath it. This is the only way to remove the buttock indentation.
