What Would Be The Best Way To Shorten Why Chin After An Initial Genioplasty?
Q: Dr. Eppley, I had a genioplasty with double jaw surgery, the problem is my face is now too long
I dont have the 1/3 – 1/3 – 1/3 facial proportion anymore, and my philtrum to chin ratio is off
Is there a way to reduce chin height and what would be appropriate for my case? Shaving down the chin or redoing a genioplasty?
I want to reduce the height beteen lower lip and chin.
A: Redoing the chin osteotomy would be the appropriate surgery. Whether it was done intentionally or accidentally the chin is now too long. When using step plates it is easy to inadvertently make the chin long while bringing it forward. The key question is how much vertical shortening is needed.
