What Is The Best Treatment For Crown of the Scalp CVG?

Q: Dr. Eppley, I’m 56 years old and going bald, so I would like to shave my head. However I have a bit of CVG (cutis verticis gyrata)  on the crown of my head that I’m not very keen on showing off. I would like to discuss my options of what could be done to get a smooth scalp so I can shave.

A: The only two treatment options for scalp CVG are excision and release with fat injections. Generally deep inverted v-shaped CVG lines are best treated by excisions. Less inverted more shallow ones are treated by fat injections….which appears to be what your one submitted picture shows.

An achievable goal is to lessen their prominence/visibility. I would be cautions about expecting a perfeclly smooth scalp contour.
