How Long Does It Take For The Muscle To Smooth Out After A Sliding Genioplasty?
Q: Dr. Eppley, I had a revision genioplasty about 5 months ago now. The swelling continues to dissapate and it is finally starting to look good. The only thing is the muscles look flexed and heavy when I smile and talk. I was wondering what the healing process is for a genioplasty : first the swelling goes down and the bone heals. When does the muscle smooth out and heal? As more time continues, my smile looks more normal and my face not so heavy. I was wondering if it will go back to looking more normal though like before. Thanks.
A:At 5 months I would think what you see is what it is. Muscle does not ‘smooth out’ with healing.
