How Do I Fix A Witch’s Chin After Chin Reduction Surgery?
Q: Dr. Eppley, I got a chin reduction and it left me with a bit of a bulbous Witch’s Chin which seems slightly off center. I’d be interested to understand if there is a way to refine the bone underneath the chin to give it a slightly thinner and more square appearance like I used to have.
A: If you had any form of intraoral chin reduction by bone removal, this is exactly what I would anticipate to happen….the soft tissue chin pad sags because it has been released from the bone and has lost structural support. As the front end of the bone has been burred down it will also look flatter/wider. The only method to address both issues is a submental approach where the bone can be tapered and the soft tissue excess can be removed.
