How Can My Prior Genioplasty and Jaw Angle Implants Result Be Improved?
Q: Dr. Eppley, Hello, this is the result I am looking for. I have already had a genioplasty and mandibular implants, but the result is not visible enough; the implants were too small.
A:Thank you for sending all of your jaw augmentation surgery information. My first comment is that is a good improvement from where you started. But it is not rare that patients often desire to take a good improvement and to try and make it better. In that regard it is important to identify how the current jaw augmentation result could be improved.
My comments would be:
1) It is not a connected jawline augmentation result
2) The chin augmentation effect could be greater.
3) The jaw angle augmentation appears too high although the implant design does not appear so. There may be a discrepancy in how they are placed vs how they were designed.
4) The jaw angle width could be greater.
That being said I also have two additional comments:
1) Having had prior chin osteotomy and jaw angle implant surgery this creates a lot of scar and these are not fresh tissues. Meaning an implant the size you have shown is not going to fit. That is too ambitious. Doesn’t mean you can’t get a jawline implant that offers good improvement, just not of that size.
2) The indwelling jaw angle implants appear to be PEEK and always poses challenges in their removal. Doesn’t mean they can’t be removed, just that it is never easy, but I have removed many such PEEK implants.
