How Can I Treat My Brachycephaly?

Q: Dr. Eppley, I am interested in learning more about adult brachycephaly skull reshaping surgery. I believe I may have brachycephaly and would like to know whether I could be a candidate for treatment.

Could you please let me know what photos or scans (CT, 3D CT, etc.) you would need for an initial evaluation?

A: For maximum reduction of the side of the head, most of that is achieved by poster temple muscle removal from an incision in the crease of the back of the ear. For those with brachycephaly where they have parietal eminence protrusions that requires a small vertical incision over that area to do bone reduction. For these procedures, a preoperative CT scan is not absolutely necessary since it is largely muscle removal and the prior area is done with the maximum amount of bone removal that is safe.
