How Can I Improve The Ball-Shape Appearance To My Chin After Sliding Genioplasty?
Q: Dr. Eppley, I had a sliding genioplasty two years ago and have tightness in the area. Original surgeon said it could be the plate and wanted to do removal but from my research it seems I have a soft tissue deficiency which is causing the tightness and a ball like appearance.
A:While I don’t know what you looked like before the chin procedure and I don’t know the amount that your chin bone was moved but the two concerns you have concern have different etiologies. The tightness may be related to a soft tissue deficiency because of contracture into the bonus step off if the advancement was significant enough. The ball appearance of the chin is simply the natural shape of the soft tissue chin pad being exaggerated due to the central increased projection of the bone underneath it. There’s not really a solution for this concern.
