How Can I Get Rid Of The Excessive Soft Tissue After Bony Chin Reduction?

Q: Dr. Eppley, I got a chin reduction over 1 year ago. He did a fantastic job ( this involved making an inside incision and chipping away some of my chin/jaw ) but I now have an excess of skin (soft tissue) which looks slightly “swollen” and dimples as I speak. Botox fixes this but I want a permanent solution as I feel my chin looks too rounded because of the loss of bone. I saw that you perform this type of procedure and it seems relatively quick and easy.

A: Intraoral chin reductions typically produce exactly the sequelae that you have, an excessive soft tissue chin pad and fasciculations and irregularities of that chin pad. While a submental chin pad reduction can be helpful in terms of producing some debulking of the chin pad, it probably won’t do much for the chin pad irregularities as that is a muscle issue related to being detached from the chin bone originally, which is not really improvable.
