How Can I Fix The Hollowing That Resulted From A Buccal Lipectomy?

Q: Dr. Eppley, I had a buccal fat removal with liposuction almost 5 months ago and I ended up like this. I need to know how this can be fixed.

A: Submalar hollowing caused by buccal at removal is treated by a fat injection approach in the majority of patients. This offers the least invasive approach with the understanding that the survival of fat injections is not completely predictable. The other alternative is the intraoral placement of a dermal – fat graft put back directly into the buccal space. This is the least common approach as it is more invasive than requires and excisional harvest site. That is a more viable option in your case them and many other patients by an intraoral cheek procedure that you would be doing anyway.  I am not saying that this is the ideal procedure in your case, just that in doing cheekbone reduction osteotomies the buccal space could be conveniently visualized.
