Do Custom Undereye Cheek Implants Cost More Than Standard Ones?

Q: Dr. Eppley, I’m interested in undereye-cheek implants. I prefer custom implants to be able to individualize the shape of the implants to suit my face, but on the other hand I’m worried that the costs will be much higher. Please inform me on the cost difference between custom and conventional implants and maybe on some other (dis-)advantages of either procedure.

A: Your assumption is correct in that custom undereye cheek implants is always going to cost more than the use of standard implants. But beyond cost the reason a patient would  choose a custom implant approach in almost all cases is because they offer implant designs and augmentation results that are not available with the use of standard facial implant designs. Such is the case with infraorbital-malar implants (aka custom undereye cheek implants0 as no such standard implant design exists to replicate what this custom approach to the undereye area does. One could try and combine standard infraorbital and cheek implants but they would be a relatively poor substitute as they are not only not connected but don’t create the same effect.
