Can The Greater Trochanter Be Shaved For More Narrow Hips In A Male?

Q: Dr. Eppley, I really hate my wide, feminine hips and dream of having really narrow masculine hips. Can this be achieved by shaving down the tronchater or something similar? If so, I’d be quite concerned about chronic pain or other complications post surgery.

What would the actual procedure be? Cost? Scarring? Complications? Chance of resultant chronic pain?

A: Shaving of the greater trochanter of the femur is NOT a surgical option. There are too many soft tissue attachments to this bony head that would need to be stripped off to justify any aesthetic reduction of it.
