Can Temporal Reduction Make A Difference In A Wide Head?

Q: Dr. Eppley, I have a big complex with my head shape because my head is too wide. When I go a Korean plastic surgery hospital the doctor said most part of side head is bone, there is very slim muscle over the ear. Is that true that there is 7mm to 9mms tmuscle hickness above the ear??

A: In my extensive experience with temporal reduction surgery, most men particularly Asian males, have very thick temporalis muscle in the location above the ears. It is usually in the 7 to 9mm thickness range and sometimes even thicker. However the best way to determine the muscle:bone composition ratio of the side of the head is a CT scan. By looking at how much the thickness of the muscle makes up the sides of the head this will help you to determine if temporal reduction surgery is worth it.
