Can Rib Removals Be Combined with Iliac Crest Reductions?
Q: Dr. Eppley, I don’t like the broad and high-set look of my pelvis. The floating ribs lie close to the iliac crests. This result in a “short and rectangular” torso seen from the front. I am more satisfied with the apperance of my torso in profile. I had abdominal liposuction 2 years ago.
Desired outcome: a more pronounced hourglass contour and create the appearance of a longer waist, even if the skeletal changes are modest.
A: Thank you for sending your pictures and detailing your body contouring goals. Given that your free-floating ribs are close to your iliac crest, it would seem logical to consider shortening rooms 11 and 12, which would solve the proximity issue. This would also provide some improvement in terms of waistline narrowing.
The next question would be whether concomitant iliac crest reduction would be beneficial given your concerns about high and broad pelvic appearance. This certainly seems complementary to that of the skeletal reduction of the lower rib cage.
