Can I Shorten My Clavicles By 3cm Per Side?
Q: Dr. Eppley, I have a wider shoulder frame & am planning on shortening them. I want to shorten both clavicles by 3cm each.Thank you!
A: 2.5cms clavicle shortening per side is the usual amount. Unless you are extremely tall (greater than 6′ 2″) the length of the clavicle and the hardware that must be applied may not permit a 3cm reduction per side. This is a technical limitation which is the result of the reverse S- curves at the inner and outer third of the clavicle.
