Can I Have Hip Bone Shaving As A Body Builder?

Q: Dr. Eppley, I’m a body builder who wants some help getting a classic v-taper to my body. I think the hip bone shaving procedure is what I’ve been looking for. But how much volume does this actually remove from the hip area?

Thank you so much!

A: On average the widest part of the iliac crest that can be reduced (hip bone shaving) is in the 1 to 1.5cms range. But for a very active person (aka body builder) this would not bs the type of patient I would be comfortable performing such surgery in because how it may effect the ability to quickly get back to that physical activity and the always unknown issue of potentially chronic discomfort with that very active lifestyle.
