Can I Get This Occipital Augmentation Result With PMMA Bone Cement?

Q: Dr. Eppley, I am interested in the occipital augmentation procedure. I have put 2 pictures of my head shape along with a version of what i would lkek it to look like post surgery. i want PMMA bone cement procedure.

A:Thank you for your inquiry and sending your pictures. In evaluating your ideal surface area of skull augmentation I have provided some realistic limitations of what can be done as seen in the attached picture. Most people believe that the occipital bone goes down much further down into the neck than it actually does. Furthermore the use of PMMA one cement is a very limited skull augmentation method that could never accomplish this type of surface area coverage. That is an historic skull augmentation material which has been completely replaced by the far superior custom skull implant design approach based on the patient’s 3-D CT scan.
