Can I Get The Crown Of My Skull Reduced?

Q: Dr. Eppley, I have a bald hairstyle, as I started balding quite young. I have noticed however that my side profile has quite a sloped look from the top of my forehead to the crown, and that it goes up into a peak. I feel this gives a bit of a pointy look, and the peak removes any nice rounded transition to the back.

A:I believe you are referring to a high crown area as per the attached picture. That cab usually be reduced provided the bone is thick enough to do so. That is determined by getting a 3D CT scan of the skull and performing bone thickness color mapping. This will answer the question of whether the procedure can be done safely and successfully.
