Can I Get A Chin Reduction That Shortens Its Length Without Decreasing Projection?
Q: Dr. Eppley, Hi, I am interested in chin reduction. I would like to decrease the vertical height of my chin only, without changing its projection or my jawline shape. Thanks!
A:Thank you for your inquiry and sending your picture. I can certainly see the basis of your inquiry. The first thing to determine in consideration of chin reduction is what is the cause of the excess. Is it an isolated bony excess, soft tissue chin pad excess or a combination of both. To make that assessment I need front and side view pictures smiling and non-smiling as well as an x-ray of the bone. I can see that you have sent a nonsmiling front view Picture but that alone is not enough to make a proper assessment. X-ray analysis could include a front and lateral cephalometric film or a 3-D CT scan of your face which is the most ideal.
