Can I Do Shoulder Narrowing Surgery One Side At A Time?

Q: Dr. Eppley, i’ve reached out before because the shoulder narrowing is something i’ve definitely wanted to get done. I was thinking about doing one side at a time. i’ve notice that my right shoulder’s clavicle is a bit more curved, and i know that you put straight plates in there, so idk if my case would be a problem?

A: A staged approach to shoulder narrowing is perfectly valid and has certain advantages in terms of recovery. It is common that one clavicle is longer and/or more curved than the other. That does not pose any problems for the surgery.
