Can Custom Infraorbital-Malar Implants Cause Premature Aging?

Q: Dr. Eppley, I am interested in getting infraorbital-malar implants to address my hollow under eyes and negative orbital vector. However I am concerned with the possibility of premature midface ageing due to dissection of the subperiosteum as a common part of the procedure.

What measures do you have in place to mitigate this risk?: The placement of the implant mitigates that risk. While a subperiosteal pocket is elevated by adding the implant adds volume and lifts up the overlying tissues. In addition that overlying lid cheek tissues are reattached to the lateral orbital rim, which is primarily done for lower lid level protection.. The concerns about premature aging with such midface implants only arise when you consider taking them out without any form of replacement later.
