Can Abdominal Liposuction and Inguinal Hernia Repair Be Done At The Same Time?

Q: Dr. Eppley, I am a 48 year old female & will need to have surgery to repair an Inguinal hernia. I was wondering if it’s possible to get it repaired & do stomach liposuction at the same time

A: The combination of inguinal hernia repair and abdominal liposuction done concurrently is possible. However the dilemma arises in finding the two surgeons, general and plastic surgeon, who are willing and available to do it at the same time in the same location. This is more of a logistical question not a medical one. That logistical question is often an insurmountable one.
