Can A Sliding Genioplasty Be Reversed?

Q: Dr. Eppley, I want to reverse a sliding genioplasty I did over 2 years ago. Is it possible and what are possible complications?

A: Just like the way the original procedure was done, the same bone cut can be made and the bone moved back. (sliding geniplasty reversal) Because the soft tissue chin pad remains attached to the bone there is no risk of chin pad ptosis when the procedure is reversed unlike that of a chin implant.

Such sliding genioplasty reversal procedures are not uncommon and can be done either completely (total reversal) or only partially. (subtotal reversal)
