Can A Custom Skull Implant Fix An Asymmetric Flat Back of the Head Profile?

Q: Dr. Eppley, I have had a flat head my whole life. It is really bad on the right side profile but on the left side it is a little bit better. Do you think that can get fixed? And if you put an implant will there be a scar on my head? Does the scar heal and the hair grows back to normal?

A: Asymmetric flat back of the heads are very common to which a custom made implant from the patient’s 3D CT scan works well to optimally address the problem. It does require a small incision to place low on the back of the head which scars very well and usually causes no problems with hair growth.
