Can A Custom Skull Implant Be Done In A Child for Plagiocephaly?

Q: Dr. Eppley, At what age can the procedure for plagiocephaly be performed on a child? Would this permanently resolve the issue and grow with them or would they need more surgeries as they age? What does the recovery from this procedure look like?

A: Skull implants for aesthetic augmentation is not recommended in young patients that still have a lot of skull growth to undergo. For this reason such implants are not done until 18 years of age.
