Am I A Good Candidate for Custom Facial Implants?
Q: Dr. Eppley, Can’t figure out what’s going on, I think somehow my maxilla is too small or something.
A:You have two fundamentally different paths to go down:
1) Treat the underlying maxillomandibular deficiency with Bimax advancements (upper and lower jaw advancement surgery – see attached imaging)
2) Leave the maxilla and mandible (jaw bones) where they are and do a camouflage approach with either either chin augmentation alone (implant vs sliding genioplasty) or total jaw augmentation with a custom implant. (perhaps even with a rhinoplasty to help de-rotate the tip of the nose) (see attached imaging)
There is no right or wrong here. It is all about what final aesthetic result do you want and how effort do you want to put in to achieve it.
