Am I A Good Candidate For An Iliac Crest Implant?
Q: Dr. Eppley, I’m a 30 year old trans woman at 5’9” and 142 pounds. I am going to get my ribs done (broken in rather than removed), but I’m also interested in learning more about the iliac crest implant surgery that you perform. I’ve attached a photo for you to review. Do you think I’d be a good candidate for the procedure?
A: Thank you for sending your pictures. Your narrow pelvic bone and straight frontal profile from the abdomen to the hips is exactly what the pelvic plasty procedure is designed to treat. I widening the iliac crest with a titanium implant, and, adding a silicone implant attached to it to build out the sub iliac Hollow. This is the only way to create some curves in the mid to lower torso area. While rib modifications may have some modest effect it is the pelvic widening whose impact will be more significant.
