Am I A Good Candidate for A Sternal Implant For My Pectus Excavatum?

Q: Dr. Eppley, Hello, I have pectus excvactum and was looking to get a consultation regarding an implant. I have also attached a picture.

A: Thank you for your inquiry and sending your picture. This is a classic case of a moderate pectus excavatum involving the lower end of the sternum. This is treated by a custom implant design, which could be based on external measurements, a three D CT scan, or using implant designs from previous patients with a similar problem. Such a sternal implant is implanted through a small 2 cm incision at the bottom end of the sternal valley.
