Scar Revision - The Operation
Scar revision may be done under either local anesthesia, IV sedation, or general anesthesia dependent upon the location and size of the scar. This would almost always be done as an outpatient unless it is part of an overall larger operation. The majority of scar revisions involve cutting out the old scar and reclosing the area with unscarred tissue, often altering the straightness of the scar line. Light smoothing of the scar is done with laser resurfacing. Deep smoothing is done with dermbrasion.
