Buttock Lift Post-Op Recovery Instructions

1. Buttock lifts do not usually have much pain but they will feel tight. Take your pain medications as needed. There is usually not much swelling of the buttocks or back of the thigh.


2. You should not completely sit for two weeks after surgery…meaning creating a 90 degree bend between your back and your thighs.  You should sleep on your stomach or your side. You may use a recliner as opposed to sitting straight up. Be careful when using the toilet to keep your weight on the backs of your thighs, not on your buttocks.


3. There will be a brown or flesh-colored tapes glues onto the incision across the lower end of the buttocks. The tapes are to be left in place to serve both as a dressing and reinforcement of the incision. They will be removed at your first postoperative appointment.


4. After 24 hours, take a shower and do not worry about getting the tapes wet. Do not take a bath or submerge the incision under water for three weeks after surgery.


5. The tapes on your incisions will be removed by Dr. Eppley at your first follow-up visit. Most of the sutures are dissolvable and underneath the skin. There will a few support sutures on the outside which will be removed two weeks after your surgery.


6. You may have some numbness of the skin around the incisions for a few weeks after surgery which is perfectly normal. Complete feeling will return.


7. After using the toilet, you should cleanse yourself by wiping from the back to the front.  Wiping from the front to the back will increase the possibility of infection.


8. The biggest concern in buttock lifts is the risk of pulling apart (separating) the incision line as it is an area that gets a lot of tension across it due to bending. When the tapes in place, they serve as a good reminder of what not to do. Once they are off, you need to be careful for about a month after surgery to avoid stretching the incision line too much.


9. If any redness, tenderness, or drainage develops after the first week of surgery, call Dr. Eppley and have your pharmacy number ready.
