Cosmetic Procedures - Facial Implants - Operation
As an isolated procedure, facial implants are placed through either local or sedation anesthesia as an outpatient. As part of a larger operation with other procedures, general anesthesia will be needed. Most facial bone implants (e.g., cheeks chins, jaw angle) are placed either through incisions in the mouth or small skin incisions under the chin or through the eyelid dependent upon the site of implantation. In certain situations, the implant may be secured to the bone with either screws or sutures to prevent postoperative shifting. For soft tissue areas (e.g., lips, nasolabial folds), small skin incisions are made to tunnel instruments through which grab and pass the implants underneath the desired area.
